This intriguing sectional drawing shows a 4-door Mini-type car, bearing the hallmarks of an Issigonis design. Note, however, the car's rather top-heavy proportions (particularly evident when compared with the Mini itself), not to mention the fact that it is rear-wheel drive...

Here we see Harry Webster pictured with a design proposal for a medium-sized saloon. The car bears a strong overall resemblance to the Autobianchi Primula, but it is probably larger, and it differs from the Primula in various design details (most notably the latter car's front quarterlights, squared-off rear wheel-arches and lack of buttresses around the rear-window). It is not known when the photograph was taken, but it is likely that it pre-dates Webster's arrival at BMC by some years.
This picture has been submitted by John Otte - who owns this Pressed Steel concept drawing. According to the inscription on the picture, it was drawn by S. A. Batchelor and was dated March 1961. The date possibly ties it into the Triumph 2000 project, although it could just as easily be a submission for the Rootes Group.
